Keep hope alive

Kenya

The Stay Alive Program in Kenya was introduced in Kenya July of 2002. Since then, Stay Alive has reached 1,147 schools and 137,640 students between the ages of 8-12. Parents, guardians and teachers provided the Stay Alive structure and trained staff members in instruction.

The Stay Alive structure in Kenya consists of a Stay Alive country director, regional coordinators, trainers and an evaluation team. All of these positions are essential to the effectiveness of the program.

The Stay Alive country director oversees the program on a national level and also takes an active role implementing the program. The regional coordinators are specific to one area; thus, they are very familiar with the needs and status of the local communities. The trainers teach Stay Alive curriculum to headmasters, teachers, parents and local community leaders and distribute necessary manuals to run the program in schools. The evaluation team follows up and measures the effectiveness of the program in the schools that have completed the lessons.
